The Story of the Valentine Mercantile

Originally built in 1907 as Johnson’s Grocery, the Mercantile served Valentine for over sixty years as the town’s general store. After decades of abandonment, a West Texas enthusiast purchased the property and lovingly restored its historic bones, breathing new life into a space that had been silent for half a century.

More than a venue, the Mercantile is a true West Texas landmark and home to the beloved Valentine’s in Valentine Music Festival. With its century-old adobe walls and restored shabby-chic charm, it offers an unforgettable setting for weddings, corporate gatherings, and private celebrations. Here, history and horizon come together to create experiences that feel both timeless and rare.
